KEYBOX Update

Just a quick note that an update to KEYBOX was made a few days ago.

Now KEYBOX displays a warning icon over secrets which were modified since the last backup.  This is to remind the user that they are at risk of being lost if left this way.  Additionally, a number badge is now displayed for the number of secrets yet to be backed up. This serves as an additional reminder to backup those secrets as soon as possible.

The reason for this update is that far too many support requests have been coming in from users who are not diligent about backing up their data which ends up lost when upgrading iPhones etc… Many users seem to believe that their data is automatically synced to the cloud, despite very specifically mentioning that KEYBOX is anti-cloud.

I’ve written about this before and I want to take this opportunity to remind everybody that KEYBOX does not and will never use the cloud for backup. It’s the price to pay for the level of security KEYBOX affords you. Everybody is responsible for backing up their own secrets to their personal computers over a private Wi-Fi network.

One more item I’m obligated to mention is a small change to KEYBOX’s privacy guarantee.  KEYBOX now sends information to Crashlytics when the app crashes.  This information does not include anything that can identify the user in any way nor does it include any secret data and is solely for helping me improve the app over time.

It is recommended that all users upgrade to version 3.1.1 of KEYBOX immediately.
